In order to obtain an endorsement from Q on your license, you need to first pass an air brake Q endorsement in training.
This training course was designed to give a trainee truck driver with the highest quality techniques, theories as well as hands-on instruction required for endorsement of the air brake. Drivers who pass the course will be awarded the certificate that will allow they can take the registration test. Once they pass the exam, they'll be issued an endorsement of Q on the back of their Alberta Drivers License.

Thread: Looking to get my Air Brake "Q" endorsement Anyone had a chance to go to school?
Looking to receive the Air Brake "Q" endorsement Anyone attended a college?
I purchased an RV and then I have to apply for the "Q" endorsement for the air brakes. Anyone has been on the one-day training in Calgary? Here's a few examples from on the spot:
Alberta Professional Driving School
CCA Truck Driver Training
There are at minimum 100 driving schools which MIGHT provide the training (calling everyone will become old quickly):

I took cca approximately twelve years ago. It's boring to say the least (the course as a whole, not just instructors) and my personal opinion is that it this is just a to make money. It is possible to discover everything you should learn online, but instead you're shown a compressor with a valve and spring. Then you are instructed on how to test the slack adjusters. Which cannot adjust in any way. It's only eight hours. I would suggest it's fine if you have cca.
Are you curious about whether or not you require an air brake endorsement for your vehicle? It's not commercial.

I was at the cca too. The word boring is not an overstatement ! We were completely out in less than 6 hours however.

CCA is, as you can see in this case, which is also boring and somewhat ordinary good. A good amount of breaks within that six hours.

The first time it was posted, it was by theken.
I attended cca around twelve years ago. It's boring to say the least (the course as a whole, not just the teachers) and personally, I think it this is just a to make money. In theory, you could know everything you have to be aware of online. Instead, you're shown an air valve as well as a spring. Then you are shown how to inspect the slack adjusters. Which isn't allowed to adjust in any way. It's only eight hours. I would suggest that cca could be perfect.
Are you curious about whether or not you require a brake air endorsements for your vehicle? This is not a commercial requirement.
The RV isn't commercial. I've heard that the person driving it requires an Q license.
I'll take a look at online alternatives too. Thanks.

The vehicle must be large enough that requires airbrakes. I completed my "Q" endorsement 6 years ago at high river. It was a single day class that also included an exam written. There aren't any ways to take it online since you must prove the ability to change brakes.

I'm +1 for High River, good bunch there. The cost was lower than cca and class sizes are lower, so you're faster.

If you own a vehicle equipped with air brakes, or hydraulic brakes with air it is required to obtain the Q endorsement, regardless the type of vehicle, whether private or commercial within Alberta.
It's not really a matter of which location you choose, in all the tales I've heard it's identical: 1 day class, the same handbook that has the primary and second setup on a large screen that you can be able to follow along as the instructor points at the various components. The cost is around $100 for the class therefore if I were in your shoes I'd pick a location near your home, so that it doesn't require you to swerve through traffic forever in order to get there.
I had mine taken 7 years ago and brought my dad there last year. According to what he said, the manual doesn't seem to have been changed in the slightest. The former professional tell stories of the days of his trucking career and also go through the book.

What makes driving a motorhome equipped that has air brakes differently?
Air brakes on motorhomes can affect the manner in which the car brakes. The distance you stop is extended because of air brakes having some lag time before they start to function. Your stopping ability is affected by the perception delay in reaction time and the distance at which you are able to brake effectively.
Be aware of the greater stopping distance by increasing your distance to follow by at minimum five minutes.
Be aware that the ability of your vehicle to stop is also affected by the mass of your rig, how fast you're accelerating your brakes, the level of the road as well as your traction. You should increase your distance to follow in the direction you go, or if the driving conditions worsen.
If you brake normally, press the brake pedal at a consistent pressure, then release the brakes before reaching the complete stop. Then apply pressure to secure the stop.
If you require an use an emergency brake, you should apply them in the strongest way you can while not making the wheels lock. Avoid pumping the brakes because the motorhome you are driving may be equipped with an anti-lock brake system, or it could cause the brakes to loose air pressure which makes them less effective.
If your wheels have been locked or require an adjustment to the steering or turn using an emergency brake, you must release the brakes, and apply them again as soon as the wheels have started to move (up to a second) or when you've finished your control.
